Although he hasn’t had the best luck on season 9 of High Stakes Poker and has been fairly quiet this time around, Tom Dwan gave a shout-out to his critics and displayed all the cunning and guile we’ve come to know him for.

It’s hard not to be a little bit inspired by Dwan’s play at the table and test your poker luck at real money casinos. After all, if you’re not playing to win big, then are you even playing at all?

Dwan’s victory at the table was just one of many storylines on HSP, with the 9th show also featuring the big pot wins and bluffs from the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Garrett Adelstein (who didn’t exactly have the night of his life), Krish Menon, Jennifer Tilly, Jean-Robert Bellande, Bryn Kenney, and Phil Ivey.

Negreanu and Dwan Go Toe to Toe

It’s fair to say that Dwan’s playing style has been described as assertive and wild at times, but lately, the poker star has been toning it down and is far more cautious these days. However, we got the old Dwan who fought back and won big during a $500/$1,000 no-limit hold’ em cash game.

The Man of the Hour got things rolling with a three-bet up to $12,000 using a hand of Ace of Spades and Jack of Clubs, while his rival, Negreanu, opened with $2,500 using the 6 of Spades and 6 of Clubs. When the flop arrived as the Queen of Diamonds, 2 of Spades, and 4 of Diamonds, Dwan didn’t really like the cards but still made a show of betting $15,000 – Negreanu didn’t fold, however.

The turn came with the King of Spades and Dwan upped the stakes even more from a $36,000 bet. This was too much for Negreanu, who promptly folded this time around.

On the very next hand, Negreanu opened up with $2,500 with the Queen of Spades and 10 of Diamonds. Dwan three-betted $11,000 using the 6 of Hearts and 5 of Hearts. Negreanu wanted no part of this and after the raise, was leaving the table and handed the pot over to Dwan for a much-needed victory.

While the show might only last a short time, it’s still fun to keep the cards flowing if you have the desire to play poker in Canada and perhaps win some pots yourself. These TV stars can show you a thing or two about success at the poker table.

Jennifer Tilly Shows the Boys How It’s Done

Adelstein had lost a couple of rounds during High Stakes Poker episode 9, but he was about to lose again… this time to actress Jennifer Tilly.

With a hand of Queen of Clubs and 5 of Clubs, Tilly raised to $3,000 from the cut-off, as everyone else called, including Adelstein (8 of Diamonds and 7 of Hearts) on the button, Negreanu (6 of Diamonds and 5 of Diamonds) as the small blind, and Dwan (King of Clubs and 9 of Diamonds) as the big blind.

It was this poker quartet that saw the flop of 8 of Clubs, 6 of Hearts, and 7 of Clubs arrive. Tilly turned up the heat in the room with a $10,000 bet using her combo draw, while Adelstein raised to $30,000 using a top two pair. Dwan and Negreanu folded, but Tilly stuck around and called.

The turn arrived as the Jack of Hearts, and quick as a flash, Adelstein made a huge bet of $55,000, which Tilly check-called. The river came as the 3 of Clubs, and this is where things went wild… Adelstein made a bet of $100,000 but Tilly with a flush went all-in for $236,000.

The pot was up to a huge $520,000, and although Adelstein considered things, he made a good decision to fold and hand everything over to a blissful Tilly.
