The group stages of the Champion League 2019 are about to reach their conclusion with the final matches happening this week. For some of the English clubs in the tournament, their progression to the next round has already been achieved, but for others, there is still work to be done.

All times are in UK Times

We took a look at the final week of the group stages to see how things currently lay for the English clubs in the tournament.

Bayern v Tottenham – Group B

Tottenham have already progressed through to the next round, sitting 7 points clear of 3rd place, FK Crvena Zvezda. As such, they are through no matter what happens in their next match against Bayern Munich, who are also comfortably through and are yet to drop a single point.

However, in their first match against the Germans they got humiliated at home, losing 7-2, so they have some pride to play for.

This said, neither team has anything else to play for otherwise and their current standings in their group are destined to be their closing standings at this point.

As such, players will likely be rested and this game could easily end with a draw. You can currently get 15/4 odds on this happening at Betfair who are also offering 1/2 on a Munich win and 9/2 for Spurs.

Dinamo Zagreb v Manchester City – Group C

Manchester City are the other team comfortably through to the next round already with a 5 point lead at the top of Group C. As such, their next result against Dinamo Zagreb away from home is arbitrary for them.

However, for the opponents, this isn’t the case and this is essentially a must-win game for them to secure qualification, with anything less meaning they will be relying on the other two teams in their group, Shaktar Donetsk and Atlanta to draw with one another.

A draw would just about suffice for the Croatian’s, but it will very tight for them and so they will be here to play for the win, while Manchester City will likely be putting out a lesser team to the one that defeated them in their first match-up.

As such, if you are looking to bet on an underdog this week, then Dinamo Zagreb are the ones to place it on. Currently for either a draw or a win for Zagreb, the odds at Betfair are at 27/10, but City are still the favourites with 20/21.

Red Bull v Liverpool – Group E

Liverpool are top of their group and are essentially also through at this stage, permitting they don’t lose by more than 1 goal against Salzburg.
They do then they will be out of the competition based on head-to-head goal difference.

This is hard to image considering the formidable form that Liverpool has been in this year but they aren’t infallible in Europe and failed to beat second-place Napoli both home or away in the campaign, a feat that Salzburg did achieve earlier in the process.

This said, while it will be a hard-fought game away from the home, unless something disastrous happens, they should still be able to reach the next stages. PaddyPower have 4/5 on that outcome, 11/4 on Salzbourg and 3/1 on a draw.

Chelsea v Lille – Group H

Chelsea have the biggest task ahead of them and realistically, they will need to beat Lille at Stamford Bridge to go through to the next round.

While a point could help them process permitting that Ajax beat Valencia in their final match-up, if Valencia don’t lose to Ajax though, then they go through instead based on Head to Head goal difference as Chelsea lost to the Spaniards in their first game. As such, Chelsea needs to win this game or it will be a very close call for them.

While Chelsea would usually be favourites to succeed in this venture, especially as Lille are yet to win a single game in the competition, this will be their fourth game in less than two weeks so this could be detrimental to their fate.

Most bookies are favouring Chelsea over Lille though, with 1/5 being offered at Betfair. Lille are getting between 12-15/1 odds to win, but a draw being preferred to that outcome with 6/1 being offered by all three of these aforementioned sites.
