Erik Seidel is among the chip leaders as the World Poker Tour’s Hollywood Poker Open nears its conclusion. Just nine players remain at the end of the day’s play – though that was supposed to be ten – thanks to a double elimination involving Bodog Poker Pro Amanda Musumeci.
Monday’s poker was scheduled to conclude when the WPT Hollywood Poker Open field had reached ten remaining players, but both Steven Kelly and Bodog‘s Amanda Musumeci were eliminated in the same hand, holding the same hand. Kelly ran A – Q in to A – K on one table, while Musumeci lost out to a straight on the other. She got the chips to the middle with her A – Q pre-flop, only for Allen Kessler’s Q – J to find a flop of T – 9 – 9 and a K on the end.
Of the nine players that do remain at the Hollywood Casino in Indiana, Steve Barshak holds the chip lead (601,000) with William Reynolds (541,000) and Erik Seidel hot on his heels (526,000). The other remaining players are Mike Scarborough (467,000), Allen Kessler (226,000), Ali Eslami (204,000), Tom Marchese (182,500), Terry Jacobs (106,000) and Andy Whetstone (83,500).
Erik Seidel will be hotly fancied to land the title, after an impressive run of form so far in 2011 that has seen the Poker Hall Of Famer top the life time poker earnings chart, with $14.6 million. Seidel has earned over $4 million since the turn of the year, thanks to two final tables at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, the High Roller events at the Aussie Millions and the National Heads Up Championships.
The attendance for the World Poker Tour Hollywood Poker Open is down significantly, with just 97 players stumping up the $10,000 buy in, meaning that the first place prize money is the smallest on the World Poker Tour since Season 1′s Gold Rush event in San Remo. The winner will take home $273,664.
