Two very contrasting semi-finals saw Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Selby win through to Sunday’s World Snooker final. Can Selby summon up the energy and form to challenge Ronnie, who bids for his sixth title?

Recommendation

Ronnie O’Sullivan -4.5 frames Evens BetVictor

Ronnie O’Sullivan achieved a Crucible first in beating Barry Hawkins 17-7 in his semi-final, becoming the first play to win his Quarter and Semi final with a session to spare in a match in which Hawkins “tapped out” well before the finish such was the relentlessness of O’Sullivan. Of course this leaves him fresh and rested for the final, in which he goes for his third title in a row and sixth overall as a big favourite, at 1/3 outright, to win.

Mark Selby meanwhile had an intense and fantastic battle to beat Neil Rbertson 17-15 in which he displayed his legendary match-play temperament to win through in a game where both players threw everything they had at each other. Now, less than 18 hours later, he has to go into a best of 35 frames final against a big favourite and faces a huge task to be competitive under such circumstances. He is available to back at 5/2 for the final.

Nevertheless if there is one player who has the temperament and granite like match-play to do it, its Selby who has beaten Ronnie before in Masters finals and can certainly frustrate Ronnie with excellent tactical play. He will need to take every opportunity though.

Last year Barry Hawkins to some extent defied expecations of a very one-sided final in losing 18-12 to O’Sullivan and if Selby was fresh I think he could make it a closer match than that, although i doubt he would win the title.

BetVictor offer O’Sullivan -4.5 frames at Evens and that handicap market just seems to favour Selby too much. Tere must be every chance that a rested O’Sullivan who has improved through the tournamnet beats Selby 18-13 or better to land this bet
