Three classic World Series of Poker Main Event clashes will be re-enacted at the Rio in Las Vegas, on June 2nd. One of the matches will be determined by poker fans, in a public vote. Read on for more information.
The World Series of Poker is littered with memorable incidents, but what if things had turned out differently? We might now find out, thanks to these WSOP Main Event rematches.
The first of the three World Series of Poker Main Event rematches will feature Chris Moneymaker and Sammy Farha, in a repeat of the 2003 WSOP Main Event, which is widely considered to have triggered the internet poker boom.
The match will kick off with the same starting chips that the two players had at the heads up stage of the 2003 WSOP Main Event (Moneymaker with 5,490,000 and Farha: 2,900,000). After this match, the two will face off again, with the chip stacks in reverse.
Should the two players be tied at 1-1, a decider will take place, with the two poker pros facing off with even chip stacks.
The second WSOP Main Event rematch is between Johnny Chan and Phil Hellmuth, re-enacting the 1989 WSOP Main Event. This will be a single match with level starting stacks.
The third rematch will be determined by a fan’s poll and will be one of the following heads up pairs:
1988 WSOP Main Event – Johnny Chan vs. Erik Seidel
2004 WSOP Main Event – Greg Raymer vs. David Williams
2006 WSOP Main Event – Jamie Gold vs. Paul Wasicka
2010 WSOP Main Event – Jonathan Duhamel vs. John Racener

Chris Moneymaker joked: “Winning the WSOP Main Event was a life altering moment. Even though I’m agreeing to run it again against Sammy, I have been assured they can’t take away my title if my bluffs don’t work as well this time.”
All three matches will take place during the 2011 World Series of Poker, on June 2nd.
