Wolves vs Arsenal in the Premier League on Wednesday has ramifications at both ends of the table. Defeat for the hosts would all but condemn Wolves to the Championship, and any slip by Arsenal and the chasing pack will close in on their Champions League place. With plenty at stake for both clubs, is there value to be had in the betting markets?

Wolves v Arsenal Preview

Few neutrals will see anything other than an Arsenal win in this one. Wolves have lost 6 on the bounce and 8 of their last 10. They are rocketing towards the Championship and the removal of Mick McCarthy as manager has appeared to accelerate their descent.

Arsenal are at the other end of the form spectrum, taking 24 points from the last 27 available. They have risen up to 3rd in the League, usurping bitter north London rivals Tottenham in the process, and are brimming with confidence after seeing off Manchester City last time out. The 4/9 about Arsenal looks pretty fair, but there are better opportunities in other markets.

It would be easy to assume the Gunners will dish out a heavy thrashing at Molinuex, but recent away form suggests not. They have won four of their last eight road games, and all of those came by a single goal (at Aston Villa, Sunderland, Liverpool and Everton). Those narrow victories indicate that the Asian Handicap quote of 5/4 with -1.5 handicap to overcome is not as generous as it first seems.

A better option is the ‘Quatro’ bet at Ladbrokes (which effectively pairs Match Odds, with the Over/Under 2.5 market). Arsenal to win, with 3 or more goals in the match, is 10/11. Wolves have a porous defence, and have been involved in games finishing ‘Over 2.5′ in 10 of their last 11 clashes. Given that trend, coupled with the contrasting form of both clubs, a shade under evens looks attractive.

Betting Preview verdict

An Arsenal win looks a formality, but their away form does not highlight too many thrashings. The form book does suggest goals however, so the Quatro market (at Ladbrokes) offers some solid value at 10/11 on Arsenal + 3 goals or more.
