Pittsburgh has a rare chance to sweep the Nationals for the first time in 25 years after winning the first three contests in the series. Washington lost five consecutive games and sank into third place in the East division, with injuries playing a role in their recent downfall.
Odds: Winner Sports 2.20
The Nationals will start with Gio Gonzalez, hoping that the starting pitcher can limit the opponents to a few rounds and give their struggling offensive a chance to win the game. He has been sharp in home games and won 7/10 decisions, while posting an ERA of only 2.89, but he will still need a minimal support from his opponents. Last night Washington scored half of his runs in the ninth inning, but they can’t wait for Pittsburgh to send in its relievers to push for victory.
The Pirates are thrilled with their performance and even though the red-hot St. Louis is preventing them from taking the lead in the Central division, they are within striking distance. The offensive is finally clicking and that’s great news for AJ Burnett who has a losing record despite conceding no more than three runs per game on average. The visitors are also thrilled with the fact that Washington will be without Bryce Harper and Ian Desmond who also missed the third game of the series.
Washington has a relatively strong home record, but this shouldn’t have a deterring effect on players willing to trust Pittsburgh to win its fourth consecutive game. This will most likely be a tight call once again and the winning team will prevail by fewer runs but with Winner Sports offering odds of 2.20, a narrow margin of victory is good enough.
