The Portuguese city of Oeiras is going to see plenty of exciting tennis matches over the next few days, with the battle between the world’s number fifteen, Dominika Cibulkova, and the world’s number thirty-two, Urszula Radwanska, being one of the main highlights of the schedule on Tuesday.

It is not that hard to see who is the favourite in that particular battle, but the first glance at the match-up might actually be a bit deceiving. In fact, a closer look at everything reveals that Urszula Radwanska might actually be a fairly big obstacle for the second seed.

First of all, it is fairly important to mention the fact that Dominika Cibulkova withdrew from the tournament in Marrakech last week, citing unspecified injury as the reason. That obviously might have had something to do with the fact that she was very tired after the Fed Cup matches that took place in Russia, but chances are that there might indeed be some health issues troubling her at the moment.

The problem is, however, that she might struggle even without health problems playing a role. She has been up and down in recent months and that certainly isn’t a good sign given the fact that her playing style is fairly reliant on consistent baseline hitting.

On the other hand, Urszula Radwanska seems to be rising through the ranks at the moment and her performances seem to be rather consistent, with losses coming almost exclusively against players that are ranked above her. Clay might not be her favourite surface, but she managed to beat some pretty strong players, including Varvara Lepchenko and Marion Bartoli, on it last year, so she isn’t completely clueless when it comes to playing on the red stuff either. The bottom line of everything is that we are getting a premium price for Urszula Radwanska for no real reason – and that is what makes backing her today so appealing.
