UFC 160 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday evening with the headlining fight a Heavyweight Title clash between the champion Cain Velasquez and challenger Antonio “Big Foot” Silva. However for our initial free UFC betting tip for the UFC 160 card we have focused our attentions on the co-main event and have picked out a great bet at 11/5 with Paddy Power.
The co-main event also features heavyweights, and two men who are looking to get the next shot at the champion, whoever that may be. Former champion Junior Dos Santos (2/7 outright Paddy Power) starts as a heavy favourite over Mark “The Super Samoan” Hunt (10/3 outright Ladbrokes) and rightly so.
Backing Dos Santos to win at 2/7 won’t get you rich quick but backing him to win in the 1st round at 11/5 with Paddy Power will fill your pockets more substantially.
Hunt is on a four fight winning streak but this is a massive step up in competition as he takes on the former champion. Prior to that streak he had lost six fights straight, with all of those losses coming in the opening round. Only one of those was by TKO/KO, which is Dos Santos’ preferred method of finishing, but JDS does have a black belt in BJJ so is capable of submitting people. Plus, it does perhaps show a tendency for Hunt to start slow and lose early which is ideal for our bet.
The above talk of submission victories isn’t really necessary as the only person hitting the mat in this fight will be Mark Hunt when Dos Santos knocks him out.
JDS has a 15-2 record and 11 of those 15 wins have came in the opening round of the fight. Sometimes these stats are skewed by early career fights where the fighters are fighting poor opposition but Dos Santos has shown the ability to finish fights early throughout his career and against solid opposition.
He is the only person to have stopped the durable Fabricio Werdum and, in their first fight, he stopped the current champion, Velasquez, in little over a minute. Basically, JDS likes his fights out of the way early and that will definitely be his gameplan coming into this fight as he looks to put on a show after losing his title last time out.
The bonus for this bet is the fact that the New Zealander Hunt has been stuck in his home country after having massive visa issues. He only arrived in the country at the beginning of this week when he actually intended to get to the USA two weeks ago.
Hunt has taken to Twitter to show his anger at not being able to get to America to aclimatise/prepare for the fight. This is obviously not ideal preparation for the biggest fight of his career.
Paddy Power are the only bookmakers currently offering prices on the round betting market but since they are best price Dos Santos in the outrights it seems logical that they will be best price on this market too, as they tend to be.
Check back later in the week as we give our thoughts on the rest of the card.
Recommendation: Junior Dos Santos to win in the 1st round vs. Mark Hunt at UFC 160 – 11/5 Paddy Power.
