Today’s Europa League draw has seen Tottenham Hotspur matched with Rubin Kazan, PAOK Thessaloniki and Shamrock Rovers. As a result of this relatively easy group, most bookmakers have moved to trim the price of a Tottenham outright success, leaving the London club as clear favourites to win the competition with most of the bookmakers.
Tottenham had been joint favourites to take the Europa League title, along with Paris St Germain, but as a result of the draw, they are now a best price of 11.00 (SportingBet) and are rated as clear favourites with the majority of bookmakers.
Paris St Germain are rated second favourites (best price 11.00, also with SportingBet) with Atletico Madrid (15.00, SportingBet) and Lazio (21.00, Unibet) not far behind.
Thanks to last night’s 0-0 draw with Hearts, Tottenham qualified for the group stages, but the same result meant that Hearts would join Rangers and Celtic in being eliminated from the Europa League, meaning that no Scottish clubs are left in the competition.
This is an historic moment for Irish club Shamrock Rovers too, as just five years ago the club were relegated from the Irish top flight and were on the brink of going out of existence. A supporters trust took over the club, who were promoted back to the top flight at the first attempt and now find themselves competing in the Europa League.
Shamrock chairman Jonathan Roche, said: “It’s a great draw for our fans. Last night was an historic occasion for us and to top it off like this… it hasn’t quite soaked in.”
Shamrock are unlikely to go much further in the Europa League competition and are quoted at 1001.00 to win the tournament with most bookmakers, including Unibet.
Stoke City, who are playing in the Europa League for the first time, were thrown into a tough group against Dinamo Kiev, Besiktas and Maccabi Tel Aviv, while Fulham, who made the final of the 2010 Europa League, will face FC Twente, Odense BK and Wisla Krakow.
Stoke can be backed to win the Europa League at 41.00 (Bet365 & SportingBet) while Fulham are a best price of 34.00 with Unibet.
Birmingham, who qualified for the Europa League by winning the League Cup despite the club’s relegation from the Premier League, will play Club Brugge and NK Maribor, along with last year’s Europa League runners up SC Braga. Birmingham are 101.00 with Unibet.
