Sunday is going to see an action-packed schedule on tennis courts all around the world, but it is clear that the match that is going to decide this year’s winner of the ATP event in Marseille will be right in the centre of everyone’s attention.

The final match of the ATP event in Marseille is going to see one of the local heroes, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, trying to upset the world’s number six, Tomas Berdych. There is no doubt that the crowd is going to be on the Frenchman’s side this time around, but it is nevertheless hard to believe that he will be able to do anything against one of his least favourite opponents.

The H2H record, which currently stands at 5-1 in Berdych’s favour, should tell you everything you need to know about this match-up. The difference certainly doesn’t lie in the playing styles of the two – the difference lies mainly in the overall quality of their games, with Berdych almost always being able to find more consistent shot-making than Tsonga.

You simply have to feel that Tsonga would have to be at his very best in order to beat Berdych, but the problem is that he hasn’t been able to find that earlier this week, so it is hard to see him being able to find his top game on Sunday. The surface in Marseille is fairly quick, but it is not quick enough to render Berdych’s defensive abilities completely useless and Tsonga will have problems with getting his shots past the Czech. And, if his previous matches are anything to go by, he is going to offer quite a few break balls on his own serve. All of that leads me to think that the Czech is going to prevail today – and perhaps even in a rather straightforward fashion.
