Andy Murray has been getting all the attention in the media recently, but that might have to change with Rome the venue this week – and there’s also plenty of WTA action going on in the very same place.

With stars like Serena Williams and Viktoria Azarenka jumping into the action on Tuesday, the showdown between Timea Bacsinszky and Sabine Lisicki might not get a large following, but it should be a quality match nonetheless. However, whether the German will be able to stay competitive in it or not remains to be seen – and, based on how well Bacsinszky played in the first round, it seems that her chances of doing that are surprisingly low.

The tournament in Rome has always been a rather specific one due to how slow the conditions tend to be, with players struggling to generate winners, which is something that Lisicki should be quite worried about. She defeated Sloane Stephens on Monday in a match between two players that rely on power more than on anything else, but things are going to get much trickier for her against Bacsinszky, as the world’s number twenty-four is a force to be reckoned with in baseline rallies.

In the first round, she completely crushed Karolina Pliskova, who’s been superb since the very start of the season, and tomorrow could be just more of the same for her, as returning as many balls into play will once again be the priority. If she does that, Lisicki is going to make the unforced error sooner or later – and her tendency to do so should grow as the match progresses. It is very hard to believe that Lisicki will push Bacsinszky close tomorrow, so punters should consider backing the favorite on one of the handicap lines.
