Washington had a poor start to the season, losing their first three games but in a poor NFC East division they are currently only a game a half outside the division lead after going 3-2 since their winless start, and hope to get one step closer towards .500 when they meet the Minnesota Vikings on “Thursday Night Football.”  Five of their final eight games will come against teams with losing records, including Minnesota, who has just one victory so tonight is a big game for them heading into that second half.

Washington’s rise in fortunes coincides with the improving health of Quarterback Robert Griffin III as he recovers from a serious knee injury and is able to display his all round skills more. The running game has been revived, and the defense regularly is getting sacks.

Minnesota on the other hand came close to a win last week in Dallas but is struggling all round this season. The QB situation is in flux, strangely they often haven’t fed star running back Adrian Peterson enough, and opponents gain more than 300 yards a game through the air. Injuries keep striking the Vikings, who won’t have tight end Kyle Rudolph, one of their few offensive threats outside of Peterson, or right tackle Phil Loadholt.

Christian Ponder will get his third straight start after being benched earlier in the year. He hasn’t put up big numbers, but gave his team a chance to win last week. Since he replaced Josh Freeman in Week Eight, the quarterback has completed over 67 percent of his passes for 381 yards, one touchdown and one interception in two games.

On the road, the Redskins are a 2.5-point favorite, with the total set at 49.5 points. It’s the third-highest of Week 10, which isn’t surprising considering Minnesota and Washington rank 30th and 31st, respectively, in points allowed and the game is indoors at a time of the year where weather is becoming a factor in NFL betting elsewhere

In terms of selections for this game. I would expect Washington to win, and 10/11 -2 BoyleSports is a fair price. There are also two player bets:

Firstly, the Minnesota secondary is one of the worst in the league and injury hit. Washington wide receiver Pierre Garcon is coming into form and only lacks a touchdown to cement that.  A speculative investment at 10-1 to be first touchdown scorer with Paddy Power, or 6/4 anytime for the more conservative with the same firm is called for

Secondly, it hasn’t been rocket science to suggest that Minnesota’s offense should revolve around 2012 league MVP Adrian Peterson. Yet until Ponder returned to the line up the Vikings had aspirations to air it out frankly unmatched by their talent to do so. With Ponder back at Quarterback, ambition has been reined in a little and Peterson has returned to form. Peterson’s rushing yards tonight should exceed the 100.5 yard quote at 10/11 offered by Ladbrokes, assuming he plays a full game
