You might think that bingo is a game for elderly ladies, but it would appear that you are wrong! The face of Bingo is changing dramatically and it’s all thanks to online bingo. You should get involved, or you’ll be missing out! Don’t believe us? Read on!
Let’s take a look at some online bingo related statistics:
Twenty years ago, the average age of the typical bingo player was in the mid sixties, but since the explosion of popular online bingo sites, it now stands around the 47 mark, as more and more young people are attracted to the game.
Dealing purely with online bingo, here is the breakdown of age groups according to information collected by a number of the largest online bingo sites in Britain:
18 – 24 years: 13.75%
25 – 34 years: 15.96%
35 – 49 years: 25.26%
50 – 54 years: 5.82%
55 – 64 years: 6.66%
65 years+: 2.96%
It is thought that just 1% of traditional land based bingo players have made the switch to online bingo, while many younger people are discovering bingo on the internet and are now paying visits to real life, bricks and mortar bingo halls. It is clear from the online statistics that bingo is not just a game for the elderly, and more and more young people are realising what great fun bingo can be, both live and online.
A recent survey suggests that there are around 3.5 million online bingo players in the UK alone, and that the split is around 80% – 20% in favour of women, so there is perhaps still some truth in the stereotype that bingo is largely a game for women. However – before online bingo, the percentage of female bingo players was above 90% so there is a noticeable shift towards males joining the bingo revolution.
This trend is likely to continue too, as just 40% of online bingo players have been playing for more than five years. As more and more new people discover the game of bingo, attitudes towards it are changing.
It is also interesting to note that in research carried out by BingoPort, a quarter of online bingo players said they used no form of social media, such as Facebook or Twitter, meaning that these players are relying solely on online bingo for their internet social networking. As around half of online bingo players play daily, and coupled with the undoubted social aspect of playing bingo, it’s easy to see why, and this is clearly a part of the reason that more and more younger people are drawn to online bingo.
Plenty of celebrities are thought to enjoy a game of bingo too. Catherine Zeta-Jones claims that she has regular bingo parties, while Robbie Williams, Russell Crowe and even Barrack Obama are reportedly fans of bingo. If it’s good enough for Hollywood A-Listers, it’s surely good enough for Joe Public?
So listen up young men – why not get involved with online bingo and see what all the fuss is about? Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!
