The semi finals take place on Thursday and Friday this week

Thursday 14th

Hobart Hurricanes v Melbourne Stars

Hobart were top of the table throughout the league stages and ended with a 10-4 win-loss record despite losing their final league match to the Sydney Thunder. Hobart, playing on some of the best wickets in the league, had the two tip run scorers in the competition in Short and Wade and Faulkner and Archer combined to take 35 wickets. They rightly will be faourites to progress to the final from this home semi-final

The Stars crept into the semi finals in 4th place with a 7-7 win-loss record beating the Sixers comfortably in their last game to leapfrog into the post-season. The likes of Stoinis and Maxwell with the bat make them a dangerous side on their day, but consistency has been a problem

Hobart at 8/11 with SkyBet are expected to progress

Friday 15th

Melbourne Renegades v Sydney Sixers

Sydney’s loss to the Stars in the final league game meant that the Renegades went into second to host a home semi-final. In Kane Richardson they have the top wicket taker in the competition though Abbott, Curran and O’Keefe combined to take 60 wickets for the Sixers though Curran now departs for England’s ODI matches in the West Indies.

Neither side are as strong in batting as in bowling and this should be the lower scoring semi final and should be close. I have a marginal preference for the Sixers at 10/11 with Skybet
