Detroit still has a narrow gap separating it from Cleveland but the Indians are just two victories away from tying the Tigers for the lead. To prevent this from happening, Detroit will need to end the losing streak by defeating Tampa Bay at home and they count on Max Scherzer to lead them to victory.
Bet: Tampa Bay
Odds: Winner Sports 2.20
The Tigers are mired in a three-game losing streak and tonight they turn to their most successful pitcher, the only one in the majors to win all 11 decisions. Max pitched well in most of his outings but he also enjoyed the most runs of support of all starting pitchers in MLB. His offensive teammates scored an average of eight runs in all of his starts, which explains why he has an 11-0 record and an ERA of 3.05.
Tampa Bay has a promising starting pitcher of its own although Alex Colome lacks the experience needed to compete at the highest level. He started twice for the Rays and is yet to concede a run, so he should be more than a match for Detroit’s reeling offensive. The main concern is Miguel Cabrera, one of the most prolific players that the Tigers have in their rotation and one that is .447 over a 12 games hitting streak.
At a first glance it looks like the visitors have already won the pitchers’ duel, but despite his obvious abilities, Max Scherzer is one overestimated pitcher. All good things come to an end, and if the Tigers fail to provide him with many runs of support, Max could suffer his first defeat this season. Such an outcome is rewarded with odds of 2.20 by Winner Sports.
