While the eyes of the cricket world are on the Ashes Test Match at Lords, the domestic programme continues unabated and Friday sees three more T20 Group matches for us to look at for betting opportunities

Glamorgan to beat Somerset at 11/8 BoyleSports

Hampshire to beat Surrey at 10/11 BoyleSports

Friday’s three games are as follows:

Somerset v Glamorgan Taunton 17:30
Nottinghamshire v Durham Nottingham 18:00
Surrey v Hampshire Oval 18:30

Taking these in turn, after Somerset’s loss to Northants on Wednesday, which was good news for Betpal’s cricket tips, they really need to start winning to give themselves a chance of qualifiying from the Midlands and West Group. Likely to be without Marcus Trescothick through injury and with an under-performing team lacking confidence, they face a tough task to overcome a Glamorgan side who were top of the table until Northants’ win.

Against Glamorgan is that they are coming off a tough four day game at Old Trafford, in which they were in the field for two days whilst Lancashire amassed 567. In addition Taunton is a small high scoring ground which suits Somerset’s big hitting batsmane who deal better in fours and sixes when on song than manipulating a score via accumulating ones and twos.

That said, at prevailing prices of Somerset 4/7 and Glamorgan 11/8, Glamorgan’s under-rated one day side led by the estimable Jim Allenby are worth an investment with BoyleSports. They tend to perform better thasn the sum of their parts and the same cannot be said of Somerset this season

Notts host Durham in the North Group. Notts have won four out of 5 so far in the competition and are recognised as having one of the best batting line ups in the country with Lumb, Hales, Taylor and Patel. Durham are under-performing, near the bottom of the group and to me this match is a no bet with Notts best priced 1/2, not a price I will be taking on any team in the T20 format

The final game is in the very tough South Group. Last years winners Hampshire, unbeaten in the competition so far this year visit Surrey in a match the bookmakers price as a “pick em” 10/11 each of two. Surrey have a strong bowling side, notably Jade Dernbach and Azhar Mahmood are capable of leading Surrey to defend low totals set by an inconsistent batting line up that lacks a big hitter or two in the middle order.

Hampshire have the tools in both spin (Briggs) and seam (Wood,Mascarenhas) to restrict Surrey if a worn wicket is prepared and big hitting batsmen like Carberry and Vince give them plenty of options on a faster surface.

To my mind Hampshire are the lower risk bet here, at 10/11 with BoyleSports
