The first day of the Australian Grand Slam brought plenty of shocking results on both sides of the draw and we can probably expect more of the same today – and the Kuznetsova vs. Dominguez-Lino match might look like one of those battles that can go either way. Nevertheless, what might seem to be a rather tricky match-up on paper is actually quite likely to be a straightforward victory for the Russian – and there are plenty of reasons that support that view.

First of all, Kuznetsova has been making her way back to the top in recent weeks, beating Caroline Wozniacki and Julia Goerges in Sydney after having a tough start to the season in Auckland. It hasn’t been easy for her, but she has made it trough and it now seems that she is set to return to the Australian Open with a decent victory against the Spanish clay court specialist.

Meanwhile, Lourdes Dominguez-Lino lost her first two matches of the season and then almost decided to fly from Australia and start preparing for the South American clay court swing. She has apparently decided to stay and participate in the Grand Slam, although it is obvious that she is not going to be in full force when making her debut on Tuesday. Therefore, it is hard to see her making any impact against one of the most experienced campaigners on the tour – and a determined one at that.
