After winning only one of the last six games, Stoke City has an excellent opportunity to improve its already impressive home record, by defeating Wigan Athletic. The visitors play with a sense of urgency, as they are already among the teams threatened with relegation, but they need to cope with an increasingly long injury list.

Match: Stoke City vs Wigan

Bet: Stoke City

Odds: Bwin 2.05

Stoke is one of the four teams in the Premier League that only lost one game at home, and it is this impeccable performance in front of its fans that keeps it far from the relegation zone. Recent results might have been disappointing, but there is a perfectly good explanation for this string of defeats. Stoke faced some of the best teams in both the domestic league and the FA cup, including Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Given the competition, it is only fair to say that they’ve achieved decent results.

Wigan was far more successful in the FA cup, but with opponents from inferior leagues their narrow margin victories are nothing to brag about. The visitors will have to replace six players tonight, including four midfielders as Piscu has recently joined his countrymen on the disabled list. Kone will play in the offense, but Wigan’s top scorer rarely lasts more than one half and is probably going to be replaced with Di Santo. Neither of them can create the spark needed for breaking through Stoke’s precise defensive.

BetPal Tip:

Don’t let the recent track record deceive you, because the hosts are still a formidable opponent at Britannia Stadium and clear favorites to win all three points. Bwin prices a home victory at 2.05 and quite frankly there is huge value in any odds that are above evens.
