The hopes of seeing an all-Swiss final are now gone, but there is still a decent chance that we are going to see two Spaniards competing for the title on Sunday with David Ferrer through to the semi-finals and Rafael Nadal looking set to get into that stage of the tournament on Wednesday.

However, he will be up against a very tough opponent in Stanislas Wawrinka. The H2H record might look quite horrible at first glance, but Wawrinka seems to be playing on a real high these days, so that record should be taken with a grain of salt when talking about this particular meeting between the two, especially since Rafael Nadal hasn’t been at his destructive best in his most recent matches.

The day off should have provided the Swiss number two with enough time for getting back into the right shape after that long match with Gasquet and it is easy to see that he will be full of energy after such a comeback. Gasquet obviously played a role in that comeback as well, but one should nevertheless give full credit to Wawrinka, as he was the main hero on Monday.

Nadal will probably want to send a message to Novak Djokovic by crushing Wawrinka, but it is hard to see him doing right now. He is still far from where he would like to be in terms of form and Wawrinka is not going to give him any free points today, as this is a match in which he will have nothing to lose. That situation should suit him and, if he will play freely and without any pressure affecting him, he should be able to win a set against the world’s number four.
