But which favorite is there to be backed? Well, Stanislas Wawrinka definitely comes into mind in that regard, as he will be up against someone who shouldn’t really have the right weapons to trouble him. Namely, he will be up against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who has beaten him just twice out of seven tries so far and who has never felt that comfortable on grass courts.

Of course, the Spaniard deserves some respect for his victories against Victor Hanescu, Daniel Brands, and Jan Hernych. However, those three opponents have one thing in common – they are a level or two below Stanislas Wawrinka in virtually every single department of the game. Just look at how easily Wawrinka crushed Guillermo-Lopez just a few months ago in Casablanca – and that match took place on clay, which is a surface that the Spaniard likes much more than grass.

The main problem for Garcia-Lopez here is that his serve won’t net him a lot of free points and that he will often find himself under a lot of pressure in his own service games. On the other hand, Wawrinka will have no problems with holding his serve, which is one of the keys to success on this particular surface. Therefore, it is expected that the Swiss number two will indeed progress to the finals without any real problems, covering the handicap line in the process. After all, it is actually quite likely that at least one of the sets will be won by Wawrinka by more than one break of serve.
