France to beat Ireland at 5/4 Boylesports

Ireland, England and France are each tied on six points, with three wins and one loss, going into the final weekend. With points differencve being the first tie-breaker, its highly unlikely France will win the title and its 10/11 Ireland and 11/10 England going into the final three games:

1 Ireland 4 3 0 1 110 29 6
2 England 4 3 0 1 86 54 6
3 France 4 3 0 1 81 78 6
4 Wales 4 2 0 2 71 76 4
5 Scotland 4 1 0 3 44 87 2
6 Italy 4 0 0 4 52 120 0

Italy v England 12.30pm

England were impressive against Ireland and more so against Wales, and I have under-estimated them this year playing with more ambition to back up one of the strongest forward packs. They will win in Rome against the likely Wooden Spoon winners Italy, and are 1/25 to do so. Recent England games in Italy have been quite tight, but England have progressed substantially under Stuart Lancaster and are 20 point favourites to win in Rome.

Motivation will be high, there must be a reasonable chance that France will beat Ireland at home and if Ireland do win, England are going to need a lot of points to win the title, being nearly 40 points behind on relative points difference currently

All this points to a convincing England win, and on balance the 10/11 with Stan James England +20 is a bet

Wales v Scotland (2.45pm)

Out of contention for the title, and with possibly some signs of jaded players after a long year including a Summer Lions tour in which they provided the bulk of the players, Wales make six changes (two injury enforced) for a game they should win against one of the two poorest sides in the Championship, Scotland. Wales are 1/7 outright and 14 point favourites. If pressed I would expect Wales to cover.

The bet I prefer though is on the first try-scorer market where George North and Alex Cuthbert the Welsh wingers tend to cause the Scotland backs (built less powerfully) a lot of problems. Each can be backed at 13/2 with BetVictor to go over the line first. I what should be a hgh scoring, open end of tournament game both these prices are decent value

France v Ireland 5pm

This should be a cracker, and could be very close as France 5/4, Ireland 11/10 suggests. Win the game win the Championship for Ireland in the fantastic Brian O’Driscoll’s last international game. Ireland play quite a simple style. Forward strength, driving mauls, Sexton’s kicking game and only expansive after many phases.

This game is a tough one to predict as France are so unpredictable. What we do know is that France are generally disappointing away from home (see the last two games) but capable of much more at home. That inconsistency is even seen within home games and it is pretty much an act of (often misplaced) faith to back them BUT they are at home, home underdogs, capable of brilliance and I will be risking them again at 5/4
