There is no doubt who is the favourite in this particular match. In fact, only a brief look at the H2H record between the two, which stands at 11-2, is enough to know what should happen in this battle. Serena Williams should win – and she should win by a decent margin.

Of course, we all know that the Russian is a tremendous competitor and that she will do her very best in order to get her third victory over the legendary American on Saturday. However, she would need the ideal conditions for that to happen.

Unfortunately for her, there is virtually nothing that would suggest that she will have a chance to walk away as the winner on Saturday. First of all, she has played a lot of tennis in recent weeks and that run is taking a toll on her performances. She was fortunate to play against Jelena Jankovic in the semi-finals, as Jankovic looked hopeless on the court and didn’t know what to do. However, the Russian’s performance against Errani in the previous round showed that fatigue might be creeping in, as she made fourteen double faults and looked very tired at the end of the match.

On the other hand, Serena Williams came back strongly after her struggles against Li and Cibulkova, beating Agnieszka Radwanska for the loss of just three games. If she comes out swinging on Saturday, Sharapova will have plenty of problems with just keeping up – and a very easy victory for the world’s number one therefore looks quite likely.
