Eighteen dogs remain in the Golden Sprint, contested over the 400m at Romford, and Friday evening sees the semi-finals of one of the country’s most respected competitions. A number of bookmakers have kindly priced the races up early, allowing us the opportunity to take advantage of some early prices. bet365 are best price of 10/1 about a value outsider that BetPal think has a chance to pull off a shock win.
BetPal have already tipped Glanmire Lad to win the Golden Sprint at 10/1 and he should make his way into the final by winning the first heat at 8:34pm. A dog blessed with tremendous early pace, Glanmire Lad hasn’t trapped well in his last two outings at Romford but prior to that had been trapping consistently well and extremely fast. He is taken to blast out and make all in what is a solid looking semi-final line-up.
Garryglass Rodge starts as favourite to win the heat from trap one but Glanmire Lad is drawn next door in trap two and should have the better of the early and has clocked exceptionally fast times and won’t get caught. Unusually, there are four wide seeded runners in this race and that could lead to a lot of trouble at the first bend by which point Glanmire Lad will be long gone. Paddy Power offer an early price of 9/4 on Glanmire Lad winning the race whilst he is as short as 7/4 elsewhere.
The betting for the second heat, ran at 8:50pm, is headed by the impressive Farloe Barracuda but at as short as 1/4 doesn’t represent value and we can find some value elsewhere in taking him on with Millwards Matt at 10/1 in trap 6. If Barracuda traps like he did in the opening round then he wins the race at a canter but he doesn’t always trap so efficiently and his sectional in a recent trial wasn’t as fast.
Millwards Matt is the sole wide seed in this race and has trapped very well at Romford recently, this, coupled with the fact that the dog in trap five isn’t the sharpest trapper, means that Matt should get a nice clear passage in the race. His identical times of 24:05s in his last two races is quick enough and if Barracuda isn’t on the bunny then it would be good enough to win this race. The 10/1 with bet365 has to be snapped up as he is as short as 6/1 elsewhere and that is likely to be closer to his starting price.
In the final heat, Ayamzaman is the short priced favourite but might not get things all his own way in the 9:06pm race. Droopys Loner started the competition at a similar price to Ayamzaman but couldn’t pull off a victory in the first round. In this race Loner has a nice draw in trap one and should trap well and make all.
The danger is that Ayamzaman traps like he did in the first round but trap 5 can also crack out and can take away some of his early freedom. At the current prices of 5/4 Ayamzaman and 9/4 Droopys Loner with Coral, Loner represents the better value and should be backed accordingly.
