Some of the contestants, however, might also see it as a chance to capture a fairly prestigious title, as they know that a deep run in the Grand Slam might simply be a bridge too far for them. That is certainly the case for both Robin Haase and Lukas Rosol, who might be good enough for a decent run this week, but who certainly aren’t good enough for making it deep in the US Open.

The problem is, Lukas Rosol might not even be good enough for making it far this week, as he is on an unbelievably bad run right now, with his only recent win coming against Jeremy Jahn, who is currently ranked outside the top 600. It is definitely not about the Czech being a bad player (after all, he managed to take a set off Marcel Granollers in Cincinnati and even found himself in a good position against Andreas Seppi in Montreal before crashing out), it is about the Czech being in a really bad spot confidence-wise, which is obviously taking its toll on his game.

Robin Haase might look like a very acceptable opponent at first glance, but the Dutchman has been in splendid form in recent times, making it really far in Gstaad and Kitzbuhel. The straightforward victory against Adrian Mannarino should also set him up nicely for this one – and it is therefore reasonable to expect him to defeat the Czech without breaking a lot of sweat.
