Mark Radoja won the only bracelet to be awarded on day seventeen of the 2011 World Series of Poker. Read on for all the latest events from the Rio, including news of an old favourite making a deep run.
WSOP Event #24 – $5,000 No Limit Hold’em Shootout
Mark Radoja has emerged from a long and drawn out $5,000 No Limit Hold’em Shootout final table, seeing off a total of 386 opponents to land the $436,568 first prize, as well as his first WSOP bracelet.
Radoja’s previous best effort from a total of eight WSOP cashes had been a third place finish in last year’s $5,000 Six Handed No Limit Hold’em event, for prize money of $262,902.
The final table of the Shootout featured the likes of Adam Junglen, Todd Terry, Tom Marchese and Sean Getzwiller, who has already claimed a WSOP bracelet at this year’s series, but Canadian Radoja was the one to emerge triumphant, beating Jeffrey Gross heads up.
WSOP Event #25 – $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi Low Split (8 or Better)
This event had been scheduled to play to a finish, but the new World Series of Poker rule ensuring no more than ten levels of play per event meant that the final two players – Chris Viox and the World Poker Tour’s Mike Sexton – would have to come back to finish the job.
Sexton, a former US Paratrooper, is looking to collect his second World Series of Poker bracelet, but finds himself down around three to one in chips. The WSOP event that he did win came back in 1989 in the same tournament – a $1,500 buy in Seven Card Stud Hi Low Split event.
Other notable players making deep runs in this event include ESPN commentator Norman Chad (12th), Cyndy Violette (15th), Frank Kassela (20th) and John Cernuto (43rd).
WSOP Event #26 – $2,500 No Limit Hold’em (Six Handed)
Day two of the $2,500 Six Handed No Limit Hold’em event is in the books and Anthony Ruberto leads the field, in the hunt for the $689,739 in first place prize money.
Anthony Lellouche and Chris Moorman are in hot pursuit, while the likes of Tuan Le, Olivier Busquet and Scott Epstein went deep but busted towards the end of the second day’s poker.
22 of the initial 1,378 entries will be coming back for day three.
WSOP Event #27 – $10,000 Fixed Limit Hold’em Championship
Steve Landfish, who finished runner up in the the Seven Card Stud Championship, is close to the chip lead in the $10,000 Fixed Limit Hold’em Championship. Landfish trails Matthew Gallin, who leads the 14 remaining players.
Plenty of star names from the world of poker still remain in the hunt though, such as Barry Greenstein, Nick Schulman and Isaac Haxton, though one time chip leader Daniel Negreanu busted after a frustrating day that came to head when his full house lost to a straight flush on the river.
152 entered the tournament, creating a total prize pool of $1,428,800 of which $378,642 is set aside for the winner.
WSOP Event #28 – $1,500 No Limit Hold’em
Exactly 2,500 players bought into the first day of the latest $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event, making for a total prize pool of $3,375,000. Just 349 of those players remain, with Rick Romine topping the chip counts ahead of day two.
Plenty of top class poker players entered, such as Liv Boeree, Phil Laak, Galen Hall, Michael Mizrachi, Jonathan Duhamel and Freddy Deeb, but none of those could survive to the second day.
The second day will get under way an hour and a half later than originally planned tomorrow.
WSOP Event #29 – $2,500 10 Game Mix (Six Handed)
The 10 game tournament is making its World Series of Poker debut at the 2011 series and 431 players opted to try their hand, creating a healthy prize fund of $980,525.
The games involved are: No Limit Hold’em, Razz, Limit Hold’em, Badugi, Seven Card Stud, 2-7 Draw Lowball (No Limit), Omaha Hi Low Split, Pot Limit Omaha, 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball (Limit) and Seven Card Stud Hi Low Split.
“Miami” John Cernuto has the chip lead after the first day, while Dan Heimiller, Brandon Adams, Freddy Deeb and Greg Raymer also feature near the top of the chip counts.
$254,955 is set aside for the the eventual winner.
