Malaga achieved a formidable result by defeating Real Madrid at home in the last round, and could now capitalize on that success to overtake the Spanish giants. What they need is a straight victory over bottom placed Deportivo La Coruna, but they have to do so without the support of their fans
Odds: Pinnacle 2.36
The decision to replace Saviola with Santa Cruz is the 65th minute was a brilliant one, because the Paraguayan striker scored twice in less than 10 min. Malaga was on top of Real Madrid in the first half, but a single striker was not enough to create breaches in Mourinho’s defense. Pellegrini won’t operate major changes in the starting team and it would probably use a 4-5-1 formation, but it shouldn’t be surprised to see Santa Cruz upfront instead of Saviola.
The visitors have an excellent defense and has conceded the fewest goals in Primera Division, while Deportivo hasn’t scored in the last three games. It makes little difference that they have home pitch advantage, when the fans have turned against the management and some of the players. Malaga doesn’t have to worry about playing on a packed arena and has even fewer reasons to fear la Coruna’s struggling offensive. Furthermore, the hosts have conceded 39 goals this season and will surely break the 40 threshold tonight.
If we are to take a look at the head-to-head results, the conclusion would be that La Coruna is the overwhelming favorite to win the match as they never lost at home to Malaga. Ancient results mean nothing though and the visiting team is the one that should be trusted for winning this confrontation, especially with Pinnacle pricing them at 2.36.
