Chelsea v Liverpool

After winning the title early 13 points clear with 3 games to go the temptation is to suggest that it is job done and that Chelsea will ease off. How else can we account for Chelsea being 11/10 to win Sunday’s game against a Liverpool side in fifth, and with inconsistent form in the last two months including losing at Hull and Aston Villa, drawing at West Brom and scraping past QPR last weeekend?

I can’t really account for it. Chelsea’s back five are virtually impregnable in most games and Liverpool lack a cutting edge. With Sterling and Cutinho the main threat, from midfield, they have to outbattle Matic and Ramires in fron t of the Chelsea defence and i consider it unlikely they’ll do so. Aston Villa v West Ham

Under Tim Sherwood Aston Villa have climbed to 14th, probably one win away from safety, propelled by a far more attacking style than under the previous manager and the goals of Christian Benteke with a brilliant scoring streak of 11 goals in his last nine games.

A home game against West Ham is a decent opportunity to get that win, with the visitors in mixed form since Xmas with major goalscorers injured. Anything at even money or longer (at the time of writing Coral are Evens Aston Villa to win) is attractive for a team that has found its mojo under Sherwood

Everton v Sunderland

Sunderland remain in the bottom three, just, despite two wins in the last four games under Dick Advocaat including the vital victory over Southampton at the weekend. They face a tough run in though, and meet Everton at a difficult time. Everton’s only loss in the last six games was on Saturday at Villa, by the odd goal in ifve and they are a far more threatening side than when languishing in the bottom half earlier in the season. Roberto Martinez’s side have lost just one of their last 14 Premier League games at Goodison Park (W7 D6 L1), winning the last four in a row and with Defoe (one excellent strike against Newcastle apart) struggling for form and confidence i am not sure that Sunderland have the firepower to change the trend. They may even set up happy for a point
