West Ham United v Leicester City

Both teams had good wins on the first weekend with West Ham’s result at Arsenal the performance of the first games. Solid defensively, combative in midfield with a excellent game plan and Payet looks a very creative force behind Sakho, the sort of player West Ham lacked last season.

I was surprised to see West Ham odds against for their first home game with 13/10 widely available to beat a Leicester side that was 3-0 up against Sunderland after 25 minutes and won 4-2. Having attended that game i can say categorically that this was as much down to Sunderland’s below par defending (two free headers and a penalty) as anything else and that Leicester looked uneasy defensively before their goals and when Sunderland started to come back into the match

I think West Ham is the bet of the weekend

Watford v West Brom

Watford showed enough at Everton to suggest that they will be competitive in this division and that might be especially the case on the counter away from home. West Brom had a tough start, and Pulis admitted an error in team selection playing two strikers against one of the division’s top sides and being overpowered in midfield

I wouldn’t take too much from one performance though, we know Pulis is pragmatic and adaptable and his teams are usually solid defensively and they won’t be facing ther same quality here. Because of Monday night’s result Watford have been backed into as short as 6/5 for this coming game. I’d rather take the alternative view, suggest that Watford might find playing at home and having to break teams down a different proposition, that West Brom will set up more effectively than in the first game and that at 5/2 the away team are an interesting price to win the game with BetVictor

Sunderland v Norwich

As mentioned earlier I saw Sunderland first hand at the weekend, and the game was lost after 30 minutes of non-existent defending. Last season the combination of O’Shea and Coates was solid but the introduction of Kaboul to my eyes was detrimental in the short term, with the back five playing like strangers.

At 3-0 down and a second striker introduced they offered more threat and I wouldn’t be rushing to suggest this one result with a bad start to a single game can be extrapolated into a whole season. Tis weekend they have the chance to get going against promoted Norwich who lost at home in the first game 3-1 to Crystal Palace. Predominatly the team thaty got promoted, fear more for Norwich than do Snderland

If it were not for Sunderland’s heavy loss at Leicester I don’t think we’d be getting 6/4 (BetVictor) about the home team here, some negative recency bias means they are a longer price than i think they should be
