A new Premier League season begins
Each weekend the best three betting opportunities highlighted
Newcastle United v Tottenham
This has to be a good time to-lay Tottenham, without up to ten players on extended rest after featuring in the later stages of the World Cup and with a week to go until the start of the new season at the time of writing no reinforcements have arrived to provide the squad depth that was already an issue last season
Of course Newcastle have their own structural problems with Benitez hamstrung by the Ashley transfer strategy but with Kennedy secured again, such an important player when on loan at the back end of last season they have a good chance to start their season well here. In betting value terms Newcastle as home underdogs at 11/4 with Skybet appeals. Tottenham at 11/10 are too short
Fulham v Crystal Palace
Newly promoted Fulham have had a tremendous off-season with squad strengthening to a side that already plays attractive football and at 7/5 with Skybet are an attractive proposition to start the season off with a win in this London derby.
The major uncertainty for Palace is the future of Zaha, who provides somuch of the creative spark for Hodgson’s team and wants away. Fulham can capitalise on this possible disclocation to start the season
Southampton v Burnley
Under-rated by betting markets throughout their excellent season last time round finishing 7th, Skybet have Burnley at 100/20 to win here. Some of that wil be down to their European travels in the Europa League qualifying but on the other hand this has made the side match fit.
Southampton just survived last season with a run of results at the end under Mark Hughes but lacked goals all season and looking at their summer recruitment they once more appear better equipped to prevent goals than be prolific. I have this as far closer than the prices of Southampton as odds on favourites imply and Burnley are the value
