It was announced last week that UB.com would be ending their long standing association with poker professionals Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth. Plenty of speculation followed as to which big name pro would fill the void and as expected, the answer is Prahlad Friedman.
The official announcement from UB.com came on Thursday, with the CEREUS network poker site bragging: “One of the most sought-after online cash game players who has for years eluded being signed by any poker site has chosen a sponsorship deal with UB.com”.
But this is hardly news to the poker community. Friedman hinted at a sponsorship deal as long ago as November, when he Tweeted the following: “I said I would never sign with a poker site. Should I ever reconsider? What y’all think? I would have to get over the fact that I’m ‘selling out.’ I’m the only player in the world that hasn’t wanted a deal that I know of.”
And shortly after the announcement that Hellmuth and Duke were to leave UB.com, a glaring error allowed Allen Kessler among others, to witness pictures of Prahlad Friedman on the UB.com website. Kessler told his Twitter followers: “Apparently Prahlad Friedman is the new UB pro. He is on Annie Dukes former page”.
Team UB.com’s newest recruit burst on to the poker scene at the end of 2002, when he came runner up behind Erick Lindgren at the Five Diamond Poker Classic Main Event, picking up just over $100,000 for his efforts.
It wasn’t long before Prahlad Friedman was winning poker titles of his own, picking up a World Series of Poker bracelet the following April, landing the $1,500 Pot Limit Hold’em event for $109,400.
In 2005, he was runner up to Chris “Jesus” Ferguson in the World Series of Poker Circuit Championship Event, earning $363,165 in the process.
Friedman scored his first World Poker Tour victory in August 2009, when he took down the Legends of Poker tournament in Los Angeles, earning an impressive $1,034,000 as well as the WPT title.
Friedman joins Joe Sebock, Tiffany Michelle, Brandon Cantu, Eric Baldwin and Maria Ho, who joined in November 2010, in the Team UB.com stable.
