Pittsburgh and St. Louis meet for the fifth and final game of the series and the Pirates are on the verge of becoming the first team to sweep the Cardinals in five games in over a century. The two teams are also competing in the same division and the recent string of victories have propelled Pittsburgh to the top.
Bet: St Louis
Odds: Winner Sports 2.00
St. Louis is still in the best position to secure the wildcard, but for a team who led the Central division for most of the season this is nothing more than a pale consolation. What is more worrisome is the fact that they will meet the Pirates nine more times and they need to figure out a way of defeating their archrivals. Injuries have played a significant role in their downswing and if they are to avoid suffering the eighth consecutive defeat, the Cardinals will need Joe Kelly to pitch deep in the game.
He was pretty sharp in all four outings this season but was tagged with a losing record due to weak support from his offensive teammates. Matt Carpenter is back in the rotation but Yadier Molina is on the bench after he picked up an injury, so in the end it all evens out for St. Louis. On the bright side, they will be facing a starting pitcher who was carried by his team lately despite less than stellar outings. Charlie Morton doesn’t have a great record against St. Louis, and pressure weighs heavily on his shoulders.
St. Louis has a big challenge ahead but if the Cardinals are to return in the race for the playoffs with the first chance to make postseason, they need to end the losing streak tonight. Winner Sports values them at even odds, so this is the bookmaker to go to if you fancy the visitors to break out of their slump.
