The final match of the women’s singles is going to see a battle between the world’s number six, Petra Kvitova, and the world’s number thirteen, Eugenie Bouchard. Both ladies have been playing excellent tennis recently, but we don’t believe that tennis quality is what’s going to decide the finals, as it rarely does in these situations. Eugenie Bouchard will be making her Grand Slam finals debut, after all, and that’s the most important factor in our eyes.

Petra Kvitova, on the other hand, has already been in this situation before and she already has a Grand Slam trophy in her cabinet, so she knows how to deal with the pressure that comes with these big finals – and, arguably, the Wimbledon finals are the biggest finals of them all. Interestingly, the two have met before and Kvitova won that match 6-3 6-2, so her game clearly gives Bouchard plenty of problems. One needs to note that the Canadian has improved by a decent margin since that defeat, but she’s still slightly uncomfortable on grass, while the Czech’s qualities really shine through on that surface.

Considering that Bouchard needed three attempts and a slightly injured opponent in order to make it through to the finals, it’s quite unlikely that she’ll be able to play her best tennis on Saturday. In our opinion, Bouchard is going to win a Grand Slam title at some point, but it’s not going to be in the 2014 Wimbledon, where she’s going to face one of the best grass court players in the world. When in form, Kvitova can out-play and out-hit every single player on the tour – and she’s definitely in form right now.
