England lead the series 2-1 going into the final game in Dubai on Friday

England won the third ODI in the four match series in Sharjah on Tuesday to go 2-1 up in the series. This was very much against the odds, as the game was played on the used test match pitch and Pakistan won the toss and batted, given them a big advantage theoretically, if they could set a good total.

From 132-2 though, and seemingly set for a 300+ match-winning total Pakistan lost 8 wickets for 76 runs with poor batting and even worse running that led to three needless run-outs. At 90-4 chasing, England looked under pressure but an excellent innings from James Taylor, on a pitch that was becoming very difficult, saw them home.

England are clearly a young and improving ODI team but that they are leading the series is in large part due to the failings of Pakistan in this format. Pakistan have an excellent bowling line up. Irfan and Riaz are dangerous and skilled quick bowlers and there are a range of classy spin options in the team too. Where Pakistan really struggle though is in the weakness of their batting line up, not helped by the mid series retirement of Younus Khan. Mohammed Hafeez and Azhar Ali apart the line up is not producing consistently enough to back up their bowlers

Having played the first three games games of the series in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah the final game of this series is in Dubai, on what should be the best batting pitch of the series assuming it is a new pitch.

England are best priced 4/5 (PaddyPower) to win the final game, Pakistan are 11/10 generally. With two reasonably matched sides, albeit with different strengths, I would be tempted to back Pakistan here but much depends on the toss in these conditions as it can be difficult to chase big scores under floodlights

So far this series the top England run scorers are as follows

Hales 149
Morgan 140
Taylor 136

Prices for this game are as follows with BetVictor

Root 7-2
Hales 4-1
Morgan 4-1
Roy 9 -2
Taylor 5-1

I do think Taylor is value here as he is such a superb player of spin and in fantastic form. Taylor has 382 runs at 63.67 in his last eight ODIs with scores of: 49, 43, 101, 41, 12, 60, 9*, 67*.

In the bowling ranks Chris Woakes has found international form and has 8 wickets in three games and is 7/2 favourite to take the most wickets for his team here

For Pakistan the disappointing batting performance can be seen when we spot that only Hafeez, with 147 runs, has over 100 runs in the series and only two other batsmen have scored a fifty in the three games. Hafeez is 100/30 favourite with Ladbrokes to be Top Pakistani batsman and that looks a very solid price indeed in a field with such a lack of depth.
