Detroit has extended its winning streak to 12 games in a row and now have the chance of making 13, by winning the opening game in New York. The reeling Yankees are trying to end their own slide, after conceding for consecutive games and struggling to put the Alex Rodriguez scandal behind them.

Particularly frustrating was the sweep at the hands of Chicago White Sox, a team that lost double-digit games yet found the strength to win all three against the New Yorkers. Their offense is faltering and with just 11 runs in four games, they will be hard-pressed to come up with a way of causing Rick Porcello his seventh defeat this season. Among Detroit’s starting pitchers, Rick is one of the weakest with an earned run average of 4.28 but he was solid in each of his last five outings.
The same goes for his counterpart as Ivan Nova posted an ERA of 1.66 over the span and lasted at least five innings in each of his starts. His mission is as difficult as they get, because he needs to contain a team that is on an offensive roll and has recently scored 10 runs against Cleveland. The Yankees are almost out of the playoffs race and if they lose this serious, the gap separating them from wildcard leaders Tampa Bay might be too wide to cover.
There are not many times when the New York Yankees are regarded as underdogs when they have home pitch advantage but this is one of those exceptions. Winner Sports values them at even odds, making it worth backing the richest club in the world to prevail at Yankee Stadium.
