The New York Rangers came painfully close to winning both games played away from home, but eventually it was the Washington Capitals who prevailed. The New Yorkers were in control for most of the game, but their opponents proved to be more precise and are now ahead 2-0 in the series.
Bet: NY Rangers
Odds: William Hill 2.10
If the Rangers are to have any chance of advancing to the next stage of the NHL playoffs, they will need to win both games at Madison Square Garden. Despite losing consecutive games in the nation’s capital, the New Yorkers met and exceeded expectations, hence giving their fans plenty of reasons to be optimistic. They are a different beast when playing in front of their fans and it was the impressive home record that brought them into the postseason in the first place.
The Capitals on the other hand are counting on Alex Ovechkin first and foremost, but the Russian star didn’t impress in either of the two games. He played decently well but this is hardly enough for a team who has very few options upfront and relies more or less on one key player. The second game could’ve gone either way and in the end proved to be one of those rare fixtures when neither teams succeed in scoring a goal in regulation time. Lundqvist was betrayed by his defensive in overtime, but if the game would’ve reached a shootout, the Swedish goalkeeper would’ve been a favorite to win.
For the New York Rangers it is now or never and this should show on the ice, where the hosts are expected to come firing from the first minute. All they need is to find a way of annihilating Alex Ovechkin and the odds of 2.10 bestowed about punters by William Hill for a home victory will pay off.
