Montreal put up quite a fight in the first match played at Madison Square Garden and managed to push the game into overtime, before scoring a lucky goal. The Rangers were clearly the better team in Montreal but they relaxed too early and they are now in danger of having the series tied by the Canadiens.

Lundqvist was impressive in the first two games and was expected to win the goalkeepers’ duel with relative easy, since he was pit against a rookie. He failed to meet expectations and allowed 3 goals on only 25 goals, while Tokarski deflected 35 shots. The NY Rangers appeared to be in control throughout the match, but their inability to convert great scoring opportunities proved to be their demise.
The hosts will stick to the same strategy tonight when they play the last game at Madison Square Garden before the series shifts to Montreal. Carl Hagelin and Martin St Louis were the best Rangers in game three, but their effort went largely unnoticed. The New Yorkers have plenty of offensive players capable of scoring against Tokarski, who did a brilliant job in his debut game, but lacks experience. What NY needs to do is to avoid suspensions, as too many players served a 2 minute penalty in both Game 2 and 3.
Montreal got lucky in Game 2 and they are very likely to find themselves on the ropes once again, as the Rangers’ offensive is clicking. The odds have improved slightly with Winner Sports, who now prices a home win in regulation time at 2.00.
