Philadelphia Eagles at Green Bay Packers

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles visit Lambeau Field. Nick Foles will be under center for the Eagles, a week after tying the NFL record throwing seven touchdowns in a game, starting against Green Bay back up Seneca Wallace, who will get his first official start as a Packer for the injured Aaron Rodgers.

Before Rodgers went down last week, the line for this game the Packers favoured by 10 points. After the broken collarbone? The Packers are favoured by one.

This is an over-reaction. The Packers at home, particularly as it gets colder, are formidable and the team has plenty of talent despite being so injury hit. They will look to feed the ball to workhorse rookie running back Eddie Lacey and control the clock. The defense will pressure Foles. Getting the Packers with only a point start is one of the bets of the week

Carolina Panthers at San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers were everyone’s darlings heading into this season, after last year’s run to the NFC title. The Panthers had very little expectations at all, on the heels of three straight losing seasons.

On Sunday the Panthers/49ers game is one of the most anticipated match-ups on the Week 10 schedule. San Francisco is 6-2, winners of five straight, and just about all of them have come in dominating fashion.

The Panthers have won four straight, and while those wins haven’t come against the best competition (Minnesota, St. Louis, Tampa Bay and Atlanta), Carolina’s been every bit as dominant especially on defense.

Cam Newton is playing the best football of his career, with a much more mature approach that has reduced the number of interceptions thrown and improved his completion percentages hugely.

The 49ers are favoured by 6.5 points, and hopefully Carolina +7 will be available on the day. This promises to be a close contest, closer than +6.5 suggests and Carolina with the spread is the way to go

Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens

Every team is dealing with injuries at this point in the season, but the Bengals have been hit with huge injury problems.

All-Pro defensive tackle Geno Atkins went down with a season-ending ACL injury last week to become the fourth defensive starter (along with No. 1 corner Leon Hall, safety Taylor Mays and Defensive End Robert Geathers) to land on the Injured Reserve. Starting middle linebacker Rey Maualuga and Andy Dalton’s blind-side Andrew Whitworth missed last week’s game and will both probably be on the sidelines again this Sunday when the Bengals visit the Ravens.

That said, the Bengals are in a relatively comfortable place in the AFC North standings. They’re 6-3, and the rest of the division — Browns (4-5), Ravens (3-5) and Steelers (2-6) — is a mess. However, a loss on Sunday might open the door for Baltimore to sneak back into the race, especially with a second Bengals/Ravens game on the last game of the season.

The biggest thing working against that potential Ravens revival? They’re just not that good this season. Their biggest issue is the running game which  has resulted in Baltimore averaging a league-low 2.78 yards a carry this year However all the indications are that Ray Rice is finally healthy and ready to have a far more effective second half of the season. With Atkins missing, the stars are aligned for this to begin on Sunday

To see the Ravens priced as 2 point underdogs on the spread to a Bengals team so beat up is an opportunity. The Ravens need to win badly, they are at home and the spread offered reflects the risks
