Dallas Cowboys at Chicago Bears (Thursday night)

The Bears are in the midst of a frustrating season, with a 5-7 win-loss record and they host a Dallas Cowboys side on thursday night who were humbled 33-10 by divisional rivals the Philadelphia Eagles on thanksgiving. This really is a must win for the Cowboys, currently on the outside looking in for a play-off spot but the reality is that they do not match up well against the Bears offense.

In Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffrey, Matt Forte and Martellus Bennett the Bears have a wealth of offensive options and the Cowboys have a porous pass defense. It could well be that the Cowboys need to score over 30 points to win this game. Whilst they might the Bears defense, which is statistically one of the worst in the league, match up somewhat better with the Cowboys offense which wants to run first, in part to protect Tony Romo’s back, which definitely affected the team on Thanksgiving and he now faces a third game in twelve days

The Bears are 3.5 point home underdogs here (20/21 Betfair Sportsbook) and this is value against this inconsistent opponent that is a “bad” favourite typically

Buffalo Bills at Denver Broncos

The Bills travel to Denver as ten point underdogs, which looks to be a big quote on the spread considering that the Bills are a competitive side. Their defense, particularly the front seven, is one of the most effective in the league with a pass rush and good run defense. I like those sort of teams getting a good points start.

Also Denver are changing identity. Their recent wins, as the weather has got colder, have been built off the run game with C J Anderson behind an effective offensive line and defensive pressure on the opposing quarterback. Peyton Manning’s stats have been down, and the general approach conservative. Against this approach Buffalo match up well, and conditions are unlikely to suit a more expansive approach to counter this

I like the Bills +10 points (20/21 Betfair Sportsbook)  to make this a far closer match than the spread implies

Seattle Seahawks at Philadelphia Eagles

A key NFC match up, with the Eagles leading the NFC East and the Seahawks a game behind the Cardinals in the NFC West and currently in a wild card spot. Seattle’s form has markedly improved in recent weeks as key defensive players have retruned from injury. Whilst they face a challenge with the fast paced Eagles offense, they are well placed to put them under a lot of pressure and give their offense, which is far more conservative than the Eagles, a chance to win the game.

The key to this will be the match-up between Marshawn Lynch and the running game and the Eagles defense, which did well to restrict the NFL’s leading rusher Demarco Murray to 76 yards on thanksgiving

I like the Seahawks here, +1 (20/21 Betfair Sportsbook) to put themselves in great shape to win the NFC West here.
