The battle for play-off spots intensifies. A big bye week across the league in week 10, so fewer games than early season weeks. Here are the best bets of the week

Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals (Thursday night)

A big NFC North rivalry sees the Bengals 6 point favourites over the Browns. Tthis is the first time since Oct. 30, 1988 that the Bengals and Browns play each other when both have five wins and a winning record. It is the first time since Dec. 23, 2007 that both teams have five wins when they play each other. The Browns are improving, the Bengals have been strong for several years. I think the Browns may cover, but my real interest is in the player sub-makets

Jeremy Hill the Bengals running back rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns last weekend.

- the man he backs up, Starting RB Giovani Bernard (hip, shoulder) didn’t practice again this week and looks like he’s out for the second straight game

- The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio, is calling for a breezy night of football with steady 15-20 mile-per-hour winds out of the northwest gusting at times to 25-30. There’s a 40-percent chance of rain for the game that starts in the low 40s and ends at about 40 degrees.

any wind tends to lower scores and place a premium on the running game

- Hill has 74 carries this season, averaging 4.7 yards a carry

- With AJ Green the excellent receiver in his second game back from injury its not as easy for Bengals opponents to “stack the box” and stop the run, leave themselves exposed to big plays on the outside

the Hill rushing yards spread for this game sees quotes of over/under 85.5 yards with Ladbrokes

Across the league, Cleveland are T-28th in defense (T-30th rushing, 18th passing), Cincy are 9th in rushing offense

I think and hope Hill will have a 100 yard night, and will be backing the over

Pittsburgh Steelers at New York Jets

The Steelers are one of the hot teams in the league, playing against the hapless 1-8 Jets. Ben Roethlisberger has thrown 12 touchdowns for Pittsburgh in the last 2 weeks. The Jets have thrown 8 Touchdowns all season, with huge quarterback problems, generally a lack of offense and may start Matt Simms this weekend with Vick injured last week and Geno Smith de-activated

The Steelers are 4.5 point favourites for this game, and they should cover and at 20/21 Paddy Power you are almost paying no juice on the spread for them to do so
