The two archrivals meet in New Jersey, with both teams going through hard times although for different reasons. The Devils are yet to win a game this season while the New York Rangers struggle with a toothless offensive after Capt. Ryan Callahan suffered an injury that will keep him off the ice.
Bet: New Jersey Moneyline
Odds: Winner Sports 1.80
New Jersey lost seven games but pushed 3 of them into overtime and came painfully close of winning all the points against Calgary, Vancouver and New York Islanders. Their local rivals were particularly lucky to get away with a shootout victory while causing the Devils to sink to the 7th place in the Metropolitan division. Although they are the only team in the National Hockey League winless after seven games, New Jersey doesn’t sit on the final place due to the fact that Philadelphia lost more games in regulation time.
The New York Rangers played all six games on the road and won just two of them, with all four defeats being lopsided ones. They were also on the wrong end of the most impressive victory of the season, with San Jose Sharks scoring nine goals against them. Now that they miss their inspirational captain, the Rangers can’t expect to improve their already ineffective offensive. Particularly worrisome is their inability of converting power-play opportunities while preventing opponents from scoring when they have one extra man on the ice.
Punters are always reluctant to back a winless team, but this is the best time to trust the New Jersey Devils to prevail. A moneyline victory that includes overtime and shootout is priced at 1.80 by Winner Sports, decent value given the fact that the Rangers are riddled by injuries.
