The Canadiens are on the brink of elimination, as the series shifts back to Montreal and they need to win both home games. The New York Rangers took the foot off gas in the last two games, but were lucky enough to split points in the matches hosted at Madison Square Garden and only need a victory to advance to the final.
Bet: Montreal Moneyline
Odds: Winner Sports 1.90
Montreal’s defenses rose to the occasion in Games 3 and 4, but unfortunately for them the forwards were limited to a combined 4 goals in regulation time. The Rangers never allowed them to extend their lead and scored a great goal in overtime, to deny the Canadiens the chance to tie the score. Lundqvist did a decent job throughout the series, but with an average of 2 goals allowed per match it is obvious that he could do much better.
The visitors played with a sense of urgency at Madison Square Garden, knowing that there is nothing left to lose and they will be just as motivated when the series returns to Canada. The Rangers are vulnerable in the first 20 minutes and this is when the hosts will need to exercise a lot of pressure to bring their Original Six rivals to their knees. Dustin Tokarski will feature in the net for the third game straight as Carey Price is still mending his injury, but there are no reasons to worry about his performance tonight.
The Rangers know that they only need to win one of the remaining three games and if past performance is an indicator, they are likely to relax prematurely. Montreal will give everything on the ice and it is worth giving them credit at odds of 1.90 with Winner Sports, overtime and shootouts included.
