Things change from day to day in Major League Baseball and bets that ended in the money and made perfect sense a day before can be huge mistakes 24 hours later. Seattle and Kansas resume their four game series, but after predicting a low scoring game in the opening match, I’ll go for the exact opposite today.

Match: Seattle Mariners vs Kansas City Royals

Bet: Over 8,5

Odds: bet365 2.30

The Mariners didn’t find an answer for their offensive woes overnight, but they’ve lost their main quality by sending Blake Beavan on the mound. Unlike Vargas who ranks among the best pitchers in the league, Blake has a losing record in 2012 and an ERA of 5.54 that can spark hope even in bitter supporters such as Royals’ fans. Except for the latest start when he held Tampa Bay to a 1-2 defeat, Beavan lasted an average of 4 innings on the mound and conceded almost 6 runs per match.

A rare opportunity for the batting staff

His counterpart is by no means better and after leaving Baltimore, Jeremy Guthrie struggled to restore his former glory. The unforgiving Coors Field in Colorado crushed his hopes and after losing ten decisions with the Rockies he hopes that his fortunes will change in Kansas. The debut was rocky to say the least, as he was humiliated by Minnesota and tagged for five runs in five innings, so it is safe to assume that confidence is at an all time low.

The Mariners are not much better than the Twins, but they have enough depth to take advantage of Guthrie’s struggles and send him crashing. Mike Carp and Dustin Ackley broke out of the funk and both scored runs in the opening game of the series, despite facing a better pitcher than Jeremy. They won the last four games against the Royals’ designated pitcher and there is no reason to expect anything different tonight. Before losing 1-4 last night, Kansas conceded an average of six runs per game in the previous four matches and their relievers are just as responsible for the meltdown as the starting pitchers.

BetPal Tip:

The line for the Totals was set at 7,5 by bet365 and the bookmaker is consistent enough to stick to this line, and once again I’d push the envelope a bit. The direction is different though, because this time it is recommended to go for the Over 8,5 runs bet at odds of 2.30. Due to shaky starting pitchers and equally unreliable relievers, this game has the chance of turning into a rare scoring festival at Safeco Field.
