Last time Seattle won a match was when they had Felix Hernandez on the mound and after a four-game losing streak, they have their best pitcher starting once more. He was impressive in New York and shut down one of the best offensive lineups in the majors, so he should be capable of repeating that performance against the struggling Angels.
Bet: Seattle Mariners
Odds: bet365 2.10
The Mariners were outscored 20 runs to 10 by Baltimore and lost the fifth match in a series of six games played away from home. They have a decent chance of improving their road record tonight when they lock horns with an opponent that seems unable to cope with pressure. Los Angeles lost two games in a row and six out of ten, and allowed Oakland to overtake them in the race for the second wild-card.
More than a match for Santana
The Angels invested a lot of money in their offensive lineup and players such as Albert Pujols were acquired to boost their chances in postseason. Unfortunately for Los Angeles, the pitching staff failed to do its job and one of those that can easily be blamed for the disappointing results is Edwin Santana. It is not his losing record that is the most worrisome, but the fact that his earned run average inches closer to six after each of his starts. His inability to last more than six innings puts a lot of pressure on the bullpen and most of his five victories came as a result of an impressive offensive outburst.
Edwin appears to have a less difficult task against the defensive minded Mariners, but Hernandez proved again the Yankees that even a single run can make the difference. He won his latest six decisions and his ERA during this span is nothing short of spectacular, with a value of 1.41 that speaks for itself. Felix has an excellent record against both Morales and Trout something that can’t be said about other Seattle pitchers, but hopefully they won’t face the sluggers for more than two innings.
Hernandez did a brilliant job at Yankees Stadium and I’m confident that he’ll find a way of leading his team to another win against the divisional rivals. Edwin Santana is not the pitcher that the Angels need on the mound during these trying times when they need to overcome the deficits and leapfrog Oakland. Bet365 makes it profitable to back Seattle away from home with odds of 2.10 and there is a good chance for them to rise even further until kickoff.
