The Swedish city of Bastad has seen plenty of entertaining tennis in recent days, but the tournament’s top seed, Tomas Berdych, should bring something completely different to the courts on Thursday.

Selection: Martin Alund (+1.5 sets)

Best Odds: 4.33 @ Paddy Power

After all, he is certainly the best of the bunch as far as quality is concerned – and, while he hasn’t really shined that much in this year’s Wimbledon, he will be coming into the event on the back of some good form, having even pushed Novak Djokovic to the limit in two sets.

However, he will meet a fairly tricky customer in Martin Alund – and the sudden change of surfaces might find him struggling a little bit early on. He has never been the most universal of players and he has always needed some time in order to feel comfortable on the courts, so there is a good chance that he might feel a bit out of his depth in his very first match of the week.

Martin Alund should not really be able to push him very far, but he can certainly raise his game for these big matches and it would be reasonable to think that he is going to give it his best, as this is one of the rare opportunities for him to get a really good victory on the board. Therefore, while the win might prove to be an overly difficult task at the end of the day, it seems that there is some value in backing the Argentinian to go well and perhaps even take a set off the world’s number six, especially since the odds that are on offer for him doing that seem to be rather huge.
