Lyon is at the top of Ligue 1 after two games and although they have a long road ahead of them, the former champions are confident in their chances of winning another title. Meanwhile they need to win the first leg against Real Sociedad, in their attempt to book a place for the Champions League this season.
Odds: Skybet 2.25
A string of friendly games provided coach Garde with the chance to come up with an effective starting formation that focuses mostly on denying their opponents a chance to score. Lyon did a fine job at denying Real Madrid victory less than one month ago, and then won the next four games while conceding a single goal. It is this kind of defensive prowess that they need to rely on in the double legged round against the Spanish team but winning the opening game is essential.
Real Sociedad achieved one of the best performances in club history one season ago by finishing among the top Spanish teams and booking a place for the Champions League qualifiers. This highly offensive team is extremely dangerous at home, but less effective on the road and this is why coach Arrasate will need to refrain from using three strikers. He has plenty of options up front with players such as Agirretxe, Ifran, Griezmann or Vela in the lineup, but the first two are still struggling with injuries.
The odds are terrific with Skybet and it is definitely worth backing Lyon to win at home at 2.25, given their superior experience in European cups. The French side has played in the Champions League groups before and knows how to handle pressure, while their counterparts risk getting crushed by it.
