The lower league football accumulator bet returns for 2013 with a tasty treble that pays £158.20 for a £20 stake – that’s odds of 7.91 (6.91/1)! We’ve a selection each from the Championship, League One and League Two, where we quite fancy Fleetwood Town to be beat lowly Bristol Rovers. Read on for full details of this weekend’s lower league accumulator…
1 – Barnsley vs Leeds
The first selection for this Saturday’s lower league football accumulator bet is Neil Warnock’s Leeds, who travel to Oakwell for a Yorkshire derby against the worst side in the Championship, managerless Barnsley. Leeds have been in and out this season (they have won 6 and lost 4 of their last ten matches) and that probably explains their current best price of 2.48 (Pinnacle). This looks like a big price in my eyes though, hence the inclusion in this weekend’s accumulator tip.
Barnsley have won just one match from their last 15 and since the sacking of former manager Keith Hill, they have been unable to find a replacement. This is far from ideal heading into a derby game – or for that matter, any game – and with the departure of star striker Craig Davies to Blackburn, I simply can’t see them getting anything out of the contest. They already have the lowest ‘Goals Scored’ tally in the division and this will not improve after the sale of Davies.
2 – Shrewsbury vs Hartlepool
Boosted by the permanent signing of Sheffield United’s David McAllister, Shrewsbury will be quietly confident of extending their unbeaten run of seven league matches as they entertain bottom club Hartlepool on Saturday. That sequence has seen the Shrews hold form side Brentford to a creditable draw and last time out, they ended Coventry’s impressive nine match unbeaten run. At a current best price of 1.91 (Pinnacle), I would say there’s plenty of value about Shrewsbury and they would be a welcome addition to any accumulator bet this weekend.
Hartlepool recently pulled off a shock victory away to Sheffield United – just their second win all season – but were brought back to Earth by Preston last time out. Against the Blades, Hartlepool rode their luck and took their chances, but they can’t rely on good fortune every week, as Preston reminded them last match. The Monkey Hangers’ meagre return of 12 points so far this League One campaign highlights exactly how poor they are and they look nailed on for the drop. Shrewsbury should have little difficulty in brushing them aside.
3 – Fleetwood vs Bristol Rovers
Bristol Rovers are currently propping up the entire Football League and have won just once in their last nine League Two outings (and that came at home to second bottom side Plymouth). No team in the league has a worse record at the back, while they don’t score that many goals either. If they were to travel to 7th placed Fleetwood and get a result, I would very surprised indeed.
Fleetwood may have slipped up last time out against in-form Northampton, but prior to that they had been on a decent little run, beating title chasing Port Vale and holding top side Gillingham away from home. They have the second best defensive record in the league and at a best price of 1.67 (Pinnacle), they look like a good addition to our weekend football accumulator bets.
As Pinnacle are top price about all three of this weekend’s football accumulator picks, they are the obvious choice when it comes to placing the bet. At the time of writing, they are offering 7.91 (6.91/1) about our recommended treble, significantly more than the 7.55 offered by nearest rivals BetVictor.
