Thursday looks like the right time for value hunters to return back to the women’s event in New Haven, as most of the underdogs seem to have a real chance of going through to the next round.

In fact, it is almost impossible to say that there are any huge favourites in the schedule today, as one could easily make case for every single player to win today. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, for example, has every chance of going well against the Czech number one, Petra Kvitova, as the latter hasn’t been able to produce her best tennis in recent weeks and might also be a bit tired after having to play two three-setters in two days.

Meanwhile, the match-up between Caroline Wozniacki and Sloane Stephens also looks fairly even – and the very same evaluation can also be used for the battle between Ekaterina Makarova, who seemed to be playing incredibly well against Sara Errani on Wednesday, and Simona Halep. However, it is the match between Klara Zakopalova and Elena Vesnina that stands out the most in many regards, as it is the only one in which it is truly hard to understand where are the bookmakers coming from in terms of the current odds.

The Russian has, of course, recorded a very impressive victory over Angelique Kerber earlier this week, but the Czech has been able to match her with two decent wins on her own, so there is nothing that would suggest that Vesnina will be able to defeat her without any difficulties. Zakopalova is still the more complete player of the two – and shrewd punters are therefore advised to back her against the world’s number twenty-four.
