The ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami is slowly getting to its business end, but the best is surely yet to come and the clash between Kei Nishikori and David Ferrer might indeed turn out to be one of the main highlights of the schedule on Tuesday.

The world’s number five, David Ferrer, is widely expected to go through and perhaps even reach the semi-final stages of the tournament, but there is no doubt that Kei Nishikori will want to have his own say in that matter.

And, well, one can never underestimate the Japanese number one when it comes to matches of this magnitude, as he is one of the most talented players on the tour and always gives his best against the top guys. It might perhaps come as a surprise to those that are not following tennis all the time, but Nishikori actually has a 2-2 record against David Ferrer.

The two guys are fairly close to each other when it comes to their playing styles, as both rely on consistency and longer rallies. The Spaniard is slightly better in the consistency department, but Nishikori holds a slight edge when it comes to flashy shot-making. The bottom line, however, is that matches between the two are usually decided by small details.

With neither of the two playing particularly well right now, it is hard to see who is going to have the edge this time around. The surface is fairly slow and that should allow Ferrer to get into plenty of rallies, but that alone simply isn’t enough for a guaranteed victory. Therefore, it seems that there should be plenty of value in backing the Japanese number one to win at these odds.
