Boston is the uncontested leader in Eastern division and is tied for the overall lead in Major League Baseball with Atlanta. They have the chance to break free tonight when they travel to Kansas City for the opening game of the series, but face a resilient opponent with a great pitching staff.
Bet: Kansas City
Odds: Winner Sports 2.05
The Royals were recently one of the hottest teams in baseball and despite seeing their winning streak come to a screeching halt, they are still a force to be reckoned with. At Kauffman Stadium they have a solid record and with Bruce Chan on the mound tonight they have an excellent opportunity to earn their 30th victory this season. The starting pitcher conceded no more than two runs per game in his last four starts and his overall ERA is 2.03, twice as good as his counterpart’s.
What’s interesting is that despite Joe Lester conceding an average of 4.5 runs per game, he has 10 victories in 2013 and for this he has his teammates to thank. Boston is a high-scoring team and with Dustin Pedroia, Ellsbury and Ortiz in great shape, Bruce Chan’s mission of containing the visitors is a tall order. Joe Lester has been brilliant in his previous starts against the Royals and has limited them to fewer than two runs per game on average in nine starts, but he comes after a disheartening defeat to Arizona.
Boston has been underpriced for most of the season and now that they clawed their way to the top of the standings, bookmakers keep paddling in this direction. Winner Sports offers odds of 2.05 for the Royals which is tremendous value, so it is worth betting against the favorite tonight.
